New Forest Certification module
UT Extension Forestry has completed a web-based learning module that describes forest certification. Landowners are the intended audience, but foresters and county agents may find it useful too.

Please forward this information to your members. Thank you for your help!
I’m sure many of you have been tracking or have heard about the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative, kicked off by President Obama earlier this year. As the Initiative is winding down and the listening sessions across the country are coming to a close, we encourage you to visit the America’s Great Outdoors website (http://ideas.usda.gov/ago/ideas.nsf) to post ideas, vote on ideas important to the forestry profession, write comments, and read others’ comments and concerns. The deadline for posting information and for voting on ideas for the Initiative is September 6th, 2010.
To post ideas and to vote, you will need to create a login and a password. It’s a very quick and easy process and should only take a few seconds. Submitting your ideas, comments and votes will help get the word out to the federal government about why we need to keep forests forested; why it is important to actively manage our forests; and the challenges our public and private forests face in the future.
Several topics SAF encourages you to vote on are:
1) Keep Family Forests in the Family—Fix The Estate Tax
2) Help Family Forest Owners Sustainably Manage and Conserve their Land
3) Promote Healthy Markets For Family Forest Owners
You can click on any of the three titles above, and it should link you directly to the appropriate page. Please note that there are many more ideas posted pertaining to forests and forestry—you can perform a search for posted ideas that include forestry terms.

KT Officer Nominations Due August 15th
Nominations for KT Officer positions, Chair Elect and Secretary for 2011 are due by August 15th. Also, Chapters wanting to use the the National Office of SAF ballot mailing service must have the nominations with bio's sent in by September 1st.
Our national office handled the mailing ballots for KT elections as well as some of the chapters elections last year.
Please consider your own call to serve as well as involving new people in the SAF organization. KT is in need of nomination committee members and a committee chair. Both states should be represented. Nominations are alternated yearly by position form state to state. It should be Kentucky's turn for chair elect and secretary positions. Dave Mercker and Kerry Livengood will be moving into the chairman and Treasurers positions respectively for 2011. Position descriptions/responsibilities can be viewed on the KT-SAF Web.
KT nominations can be submitted to any of the officers until a nominations committee is formed.
