K-T SAF Winter Centennial Meeting a Huge Success!

January, 2000 -- The Winter Meeting at Mammoth Cave National Park was a huge success!  Attendance was 132 foresters, students, and guests.  We had ten speakers covering Federal, State and private views on management and acquisition of forest and openlands as we go into the 2000's.  The speakers were: Mick Holm, USNPS; Bruce Jewel, USFS; Libby Jones, KY Dept. of Ag. (PACE); John Wood, WESTVACO; Les Ott, INSTITUTIONAL INVESTMENTS; Julian Campbell, NATURE CONSERVANCY; Dr. John Bowen, FOREST LANDOWNERS; Mark Mateszewski, KDF; Tom Bennett, KY FISH and WILDLIFE; Gary Myers, TN WILDLIFE RESOURCES AGENCY.  In addition, a communications workshop was conducted by Dan Kincaid, USFS, and former K-T member.  Generally, all of the speakers seemed upbeat and are actively seeking to acquire additional lands to manage for their agencies and clients.  One hundred and ten of us took a little time out to take a 2 mile walk underground in Mammoth Cave, the world's longest cave system.  Our Chairman, Dave Walters, conducted the recognition and awards banquet and the K-T Business Meeting.  General Supply Corporation of Jackson, MS displayed their forestry equipment and UK displayed two educational booths.
