Minutes from the KTSAF Summer 2001 Business Meeting

J.R. “Red” Anderson called the meeting to order at the Fish and Wildlife Service facility on the Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge.  Thirty-eight (38) members were present.

Red and all those present thanked David Mercker and the West Tennessee Chapter for a fine summer meeting.

David Mercker reported that there were 52 people registered; also, the silent auction had brought in about $1200.

Westvaco, ATCO, and Packaging Corporation of America, were recognized for their support of this meeting.

David Mercker called attention to the availability of cost-share support for new or re-installed SAF members in the amount of $32.50.  The funds to cost share one year’s dues with 10 members is a grant from the Forester’s Fund.  Red Anderson raised the idea of reimbursing students attending this meeting $10 each.  Moved by George Hopper and seconded by Richard Evans.  Purpose is to encourage student involvement in KTSAF and SAF.  Passed unanimously.

Larry Doyle moved to contribute $200 to the FFA Forestry Contest at Louisville, Kentucky in 2001.  Schell seconded.  Larry discussed the importance of supporting this contest and the fact that KTSAF gets recognized for this support.  Passed unanimously.

Red Anderson gave a brief budget report:  there is about $11,000 in the treasury before annual payments to the chapters and income from the summer meeting.  He also mentioned that nominations for 2002 officers are due soon.

Schell moved to suspend the tradition of the chair-elect coming from alternate states for the upcoming election.  This will allow the current treasurer to stand for election as chair-elect.  Bud Morton seconded.  Discussion followed.  Passed unanimously.

The Winter 2002 meeting will be at Pine Mountain State Park, Kentucky, with the topic of certification.

The Summer 2002 meeting will be a joint meeting with Ohio SAF and Indiana SAF, probably in Louisville, Kentucky.

The group adjourned for a picture of probably the largest turnout for a summer business meeting.
