KT-SAF Winter 2006 Meeting

Geocachers Take Note!

December 13, 2005

Many forester’s and natural resource professionals have found the new and ever expanding use of the GPS unit in the activity geocaching. Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.

While visiting Jenny Wiley State Park during the 2006 KTSAF winter meeting in late January take advantage of the great “traditional” geocache that is located very close to the lodge. By following the GPS coordinates to the Jenny Wiley State Park Cache (N 37° 41.441 W 082° 42.842)  you will have a nice walk on level ground and see some great scenery. It is less than a mile from the lodge. The cache is an ammo box so please bring some nice “trade items”.

For those that are purists and like to find distant destinations with a GPS unit, the Jenny Wiley State Park lodge’s  latitude / longitude is (N 37 41.8478  W 82 43.4616)
