The Southeast TN Chapter of the Society of American Foresters will have a field tour to the Walls of Jericho on Thursday October 14, 2004 at 11:30 AM central time. We will meet at the parking area described below. Gary Wilkinson of Alabama State Lands and Steven Garrett of the Tennessee Nature Conservancy will meet with us to discuss the long term management of this area located in southern Tennessee and Northern Alabama. We will hike several miles to the actual Walls of Jericho. Please have a meal before the meeting.
Where: The Walls of Jericho is in southern Franklin County, about 12 miles south of Winchester and about 95 miles south of Nashville. While the gorge is in Tennessee, just across the state line, the only public-use trail into the area is on the Alabama side.
Directions: From Nashville take I-24 east toward Chattanooga. Take exit 127 on Highway 64 and turn toward Winchester. Stay on Highway 64 for about 15 miles and turn south on Highway 16. Just after crossing into Alabama, look on the right for a gravel parking area with a yellow gate and an information kiosk.
